BUSINESS

Networkforgood.orgNetworkforgood.org is an internet site that will accept online credit card charitable contributions for non-profit organizations, including EDNSP. There is a link to this internet site from EDNSP's web page. Thanks to Daniel Hansler for getting this set up!

End of Season Party and Elections – Nominations for President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and 4 Board Members will occur at the next General Meeting on April 1st, and nominations will be open until May 3rd. The election will be held at the last General Meeting (end of the season potluck) on May 3rd. Time and location of the last General Meeting/potluck is to be decided.

RECENT ACTIVITIES:

Mountaineering Class – The Mountaineering Class was held at Loon Lake. We practiced traversing, rapelling, and setting up anchors and a pully system to lower the sled off steep slopes. The knots that we commonly practice were applied in the field. It was a great training to practice teamwork as well.

Winter Overnight – The Winter Overnight was held at Carson Pass, near Woods Lake. The night was very cold and windy, however the shelter provided an adequate place to spend the night in such cold weather. The group skied out in the morning and were treated to a warm breakfast at the Carson Pass Visitor Center.

UPCOMING EVENTS AND TRAINING:

New Member Ski Day – Saturday, March 8th. Meet at El Dorado Savings Bank in Pollock Pines at 8:00 am. We will be skiing the front side of the Echo to Kirkwood Race Course and doing trail work in preparation for the race.

National Avalanche School – Phase 1 (classroom session) will be held October 26-31 in Reno. The course costs $450 if you sign up before June 16th ($495 after June 16th). This course is not required training to become a Patroller, but is highly recommended for those who wish to polish their avalanche skills and knowledge. Once successfully completed, EDNSP will reimburse participants for one-half of their tuition costs. Phase 2 (field session) will be held the following winter and costs $300. Contact Grant Nelson (530-621-1694) for additional information, or email info@avalanche.org.

ECHO TO KIRKWOOD RACE:

Only 87 racers have signed up. We all need to get the word out, and encourage people to sign up and participate in the race. Hand out race applications while you out skiing or put race applications on vehicles' windshields.

Race Positions - The race positions were handed out, and there are still positions that need to be filled. If you are interested in helping with this event, please contact Walt Thompson (530-644-5373) or Monte Hendricks (530-644-6891). Your friends and family are welcome to help out with this event as well.

Volunteer Waivers – Please sign and return the Volunteer Risk Waiver to Walt Thompson. Each person who will be helping on the race needs to sign this waiver.

Baked Goods Needed – Home baked goodies (cookies, brownies, etc.) are needed for the Finish. The racers greatly appreciate these baked treats. The baked goodies can be given to Paul Stover at the March 18th race meeting.

Race Course Work Days:

  • Saturday, March 8th (New Member Ski Day) – Meet at El Dorado Savings Bank in Pollock Pines at 8:00 am. The task will be to flag the front side of the race.

  • Saturday, March 15th and Sunday, March 16th – Meeting time and place will be decided at the next race meeting. The task will be to make sure the race course is flagged all the way through. Contact Mike Peart (530-644-6837) to sign up or for more information.
